GRIFFIN - A preliminary hearing for a 63-year-old woman accused of fatally shooting her two sons in a nursing home was postponed.

The hearing to determine if there is enough evidence to prosecute Carol Carr of Hampton had been scheduled for Thursday afternoon.

Chief Magistrate Judge Rita Cavanaugh, who will preside, said the hearing was postponed Wednesday because of a mental health evaluation ordered by Superior Court Chief Judge Ben Miller.

``We had to postpone it because she is being evaluated, and she is not available for the hearing at this time,'' Cavanaugh said. She indicated the hearing would be rescheduled soon.

Carr is accused in the deaths of Randy and Andy Scott, who suffered from Huntington's disease, a hereditary disease that eventually causes dementia and death.

Since the June 8 shootings at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation, Carr has been at the Spalding County Jail. Miller delayed a decision to grant Carr bond during a June 20 hearing pending results of the evaluation by Dr. Catherine Boyer of West Central Georgia Regional Hospital.
