Emmons - executive director of the Atlanta Track Club - was chosen in voting Sunday night in Palo Alto, California.
She won't actually do any coaching in Greece.
She says the runners will have their own coaches. Emmons says she will assist the athletes with things such as finding them training venues.
She filled the same role for the U.S. team at the 1999 World Championships in Seville.
