Commerce teacher receives national recognition

SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA - R. Micah Story, who teaches at East Jackson Middle School in Commerce, was one of two teachers from Georgia to receive Milken National Educator Awards Saturday from a private foundation. <br>

The awards are worth $25,000 each for outstanding performance on the job.<br>
<br>
Betsy Bunte, who teaches at Campbell High School in Smyrna, was the other Georgia recepient.<br>
<br>
``We applaud and celebrate the outstanding educators who play such a crucial role in our society's future,'' said Lowell Milken, chairman and co-founder of the organization. <br>
<br>
The foundation presented awards to 120 educators from 44 states as part of its annual conference. <br>
<br>
The awards program, according to organizers, is intended to recognize excellence in elementary and secondary school teaching and to inspire young people to become teachers.
