FORT KNOX, KENTUCKY - Fort Knox officials said Friday that an Army private has been charged with murder in the death of his three-week-old daughter.
Spokesman John Rickey said the soldier, Private First Class Jerry Brown, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, has been confined to barracks and is not considered a flight risk.

Brown has been charged with premeditated murder under the uniform code of military justice. If convicted, Brown could serve a life sentence.
Jefferson County coroner Doctor Richard Greathouse said the infant, Jemishia Brown, died Sunday from severe blunt-force trauma to her head and body after a beating, said Dr. Richard Greathouse.

Greathouse said Brown told investigators he had dropped the child while reaching into the refrigerator for a drink, in the family's apartment on the Army post.

He said the mother of the infant wasn't at home at the time.

Greathouse said an autopsy found multiple skull fractures ... totally incompatible with the father's story. She also suffered broken ribs, internal bleeding and several fractured bones.
The baby was taken to Ireland Community Hospital and was later flown to Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville, where she died.
