Woman strangled in domestic dispute

AMERICUS - A Buena Vista man has been charged with murder in the strangulation death of his 25-year-old girlfriend during a domestic dispute. <br> <br> Benji Cortez Sanders, 21, called emergency officials at 3:19 a.m. Tuesday from the home of Sheila Nichelle Freeman, saying that he and Freeman had been fighting. <br> <br> Sanders told officials that she was turning blue and not breathing, Police Chief Michael Yates said. <br> <br> Police found Freeman&#39;s body on a bed in a rear bedroom. Efforts to revive her were unsuccessful. <br> <br> Sumter County Coroner Greg Hancock said an autopsy at the state crime lab showed she had been strangled. <br> <br> Sanders was held without bond.
