FAYETTEVILLE - A Fayette County High School student was arrested Tuesday for taking a machete on school property.
Frank James Gelman Jr., 17, was arrested after a police officer working at the school noticed the machete in the back of Gelman's pickup truck.
Fayette County Board of Education's ``zero tolerance'' weapons policy bans anything that can reasonably be considered a weapon on school property, school officials said.
The teen's father, Frank Gelman Sr., said it's a misunderstanding. His son just started a landscaping business with friends to earn extra money and had worked late Monday. He said his son forgot the machete and a chain saw were still in his truck.
Gelman was suspended pending a disciplinary hearing in the next 10 days, a school official said.
