NEW YORK - Jermaine Dye hit his first home run since returning from a broken leg and Erik Hiljus struck out nine over five innings as the Oakland Athletics beat the New York Yankees 4-to-1.
Dye was activated from the disabled list last Friday after missing most of the first month of the season. He was injured fouling a ball of his leg in last year's A-L division series against the Yanks. He hit a solo shot in the third.
The A's beat Mike Mussina for the second time in a week and win their fifth in six games.
Hiljus is 3-and-1. Mussina dropped to 3-and-2. Billy Koch pitched a hitless ninth for his sixth save.
