GAINESVILLE - Former Hall County Commissioner Don Whitmire is planning to run for the unexpired term of the late Frances Meadows.
"I've always enjoyed politics and I had some friends of mine ask me to run again," Whitmire said. "I gave it some thought and decided to run. There are a lot of budget things coming up and we need someone who knows how things work."
Whitmire held the office before Ms. Meadows was elected and served five terms on the commission. He said property values and taxes are a focal point for him.
"I would like to see the taxes go down. The citizens are overtaxed right now," Whitmire said. "We need to balance the millage out. The main job of the commission is to see that the money is put in the right direction.
"I love Hall County and have five grandchildren that live here and I want to help serve the people and move the county in the right direction."
