Triple jump record falls twice in state meet

ALBANY - Stephenson's LaToya LeGree surpassed her Class AAAAA triple jump record Friday, just minutes after April Howell of Lowndes High broke the record LeGree set last year. <br>
<br>
Howell leaped 41 feet-, .75 inches in the Georgia High School Association girls' state track meet to break LeGree's record of 40-11. LeGree then used her final jump to win the championship for the third year in a row with a mark of 41-3.75 <br>
<br>
Howell's previous personal best was 38-11.5.<br>
<br>
Among local athletes, Gainesville's Lauren Niles took second in the Class AAA discuss with a throw og 122feet, 10-inches.<br>
<br>
Also in Class AAA, Ashley Whiteman of South Forsyth was second in the 3200-meter run and Katie Canon of Forsyth Central was third.<br>
<br>
In Class AA, Ashley Hedden of White County 7-6 2nd in pole vault with a jump of 7-6 and Deidra Langston of East Hall took second in the high jump with a leap of 5-4.<br>
<br>
In Class A, Jefferson's Katie Champlin was fifth in pole vault with a 7-0 jump, Buford's Carrie Creedle was fourth in the high jump <br>
and Anna Roller of Commerce was fifth in the 3200-meter. <br>
<br>
Athens Academy's Sarah Hale broke the Class A record in the discus at 136-4. The old mark was 128-6. <br>
