COLUMBIA, S.C. - Yaron Peters went 5-for-5 with six RBIs to lead No. 4 South Carolina's 22-hit attack as the Gamecocks beat No. 9 Mississippi 17-12 Friday night. <br>

The game featured a wild third inning in which the two teams combined to score 19 runs on 18 hits, including six home runs. <br>
<br>
Ole Miss (34-12, 13-9 Southeastern Conference) would score 10 runs in the third, including seven with two outs, to take a 10-4 lead. Matt Tolbert started the inning with a leadoff home run. Chad Sterbens later cleared the bases with a three-run triple and Jonathan Swearingen followed with a two-run home run. <br>

South Carolina (36-10, 15-6 SEC) answered with nine runs in the bottom of the inning, including eight straight one-out hits. Garris Gonce hit a two-run home run to cut the Rebels' lead to 10-6. Brian Buscher's three-run home run gave the Gamecocks a 12-10 lead and a batter later, Gonce hit his second home run of the inning to make it 13-10.<br>

AUBURN 6, VANDERBILT 5<br>

AUBURN, ALABAMA - Trent Pratt's two-out RBI single in bottom of the ninth lifted Auburn to a 6-5 Southeastern Conference over Vanderbilt Friday night. <br>

Auburn (28-19, 10-12 SEC) led 4-0 going into the fourth inning, after a run in the first and three in the third with an RBI double by Pratt and Tug Hulett's two-run single. <br>
<br>
Vanderbilt, (19-22, 4-16 SEC) got on the board in the fourth with a Scott Shapiro single to score an unearned run by Sean Luellwitz. Worth Scott's double scored Chris Broadus, and Tiger shortstop Chuck Jeroloman's error allowed Scott and Shapiro to score, tying the game at 4-4. <br>

In the fifth, Jerolomaon reached on a fielder's choice, and that scored Hulett. Vanderbilt tied again in the ninth on Karl's Nonemaker's double to score Scott. <br>

Tiger reliever Steven Register (1-0) took the win, allowing one hit in the ninth. Starter Colby Paxton threw eight innings, for for five runs (two earned) on five hits. <br>

Robert Ransom (0-2) took the loss, allowing a run on two hits in 1 and 1/3 innings. Starter Jeff Little gave up five runs on seven hits. <br>

FLORIDA 5, MISSISSIPPI ST. 4<br>

STARKVILLE, MISSISSIPPI - Florida ruined any thoughts Mississippi State had of beating its former coach, as the Gators beat the Bulldogs 5-4 Friday. <br>
<br>
Florida coach Pat McMahon was playing in Starkville for the first time since leaving Mississippi State after last season. McMahon's exit led to the return of Ron Polk, who had hand-picked McMahon as his successor in Starkville in 1997. <br>
<br>
On Friday, the Bulldogs (27-17-1, 11-10 Southeastern Conference) went up 4-0 after three innings with the help of Enrico Jones' two RBIs. <br>
<br>
But the Gators (33-13, 14-8 SEC) scored 3 in the fourth inning, 1 in the fifth and 1 in the ninth for the comeback win. Florida was led by Pat Osborn's 3 hits. David Klebonis had three RBIs. <br>
<br>
David Bartelt (5-1) took the win. Paul Maholm, who pitched a complete game, dropped his record to 8-2.
