GAINESVILLE - Attorney Julius Hulsey is planning to sue Hall County over the county commission's recent vote to deny a zoning request by Mar-Jac Poultry to build a $15 million feed mill in Lula.

"Simply because there were a number of irregularities pertaining to the zoning process," said Hulsey.

In its April 11 meeting, the commission voted 3-1 to deny Mar-Jac's request to rezone 45 acres of a 113-acre tract owned by the company near Georgia Highway 52 and Cagle and Julian Baugh roads.

Hulsey also is filling open records requests for access to public documents, primariliy relating to record of industrial zonings in Hall County.

"We just had some very serious concerns about the zoning ordinance and how it was being applied. Basically, we don't think they're following the comprehensive plan. That on some instances they follow it, and other instances, they ignore it," said Hulsey.

Mar-Jac Vice President Doug Carnes has said his company has to have a mill somewhere but preferred the Lula site because the company already owns the land and has been doing business in Lula for 12 years with its hatchery.
