Braves start Rockies' series with Glavine

DENVER - Tom Glavine seeks his sixth victory Friday night when the Atlanta Braves open a three-game weekend series with the Colorado Rockies in Denver. It will be Glavine's third attempt to reach the six-victory mark. He has a 5-2 record with a 1.95 ERA.<br>

The Rockies will counter with John Thompson, who is 5-2 with a 4.04 ERA.<br>

Thursday, Mark DeRosa hit a tiebreaking single and Chipper Jones added a three-run double in the eighth inning as the Braves beat the Giants 5-4 to split a four-game series in San Francisco. With the score tied at 1, Javy Lopez was walked by Jason Schmidt (0-1) with one out and was replaced by pinch runner Marcus Giles. After Giles stole second, Rafael Furcal walked and DeRosa singled up the middle off Felix Rodriguez. Gary Sheffield walked to load the bases and Jones hit his bases-clearing double to the right-field wall. John Smoltz allowed a three-run homer to Benito Santiago in the ninth.
