Softball teams advance for UGA and GT

Georgia Tech and Georgia have opened NCAA championship competition with victories in the first day of regional action.<br>

Tech freshman Jessica Sallinger struck out 13 and allowed one run over ten innings as the fifth-seeded Yellow Jackets beat Alabama 3-1 in a regional in Tallahassee, Florida. Tech plays Florida State later Friday afternoon.<br>

In Columbia, South Carolina, Georgia beat Maryland-Baltimore County 2-1, giving coach Lu Harris-Champer here 300th coaching victory. Georgia's next foe is the host, South Carolina, Friday afternoon.
