Trahan leads Clemson to first-day lead in East Regional

ROSWELL - Behind the 3-under-par shooting of D.J. Trahan, Clemson took a five-stroke lead after the first round of the NCAA East Regional tournament Thursday. <br> <br> Trahan shot a 69 as the second-ranked Tigers posted a 2-under-par team score of 286. No. 1 Georgia Tech finished with a 3-over 291 at Ansley Golf Club&#39;s Settindown Creek. <br> <br> Trahan, the Atlantic Coast Conference player of the year, had a 1-shot lead over Matt Weibring of Georgia Tech, Brandt Snedeker of Vanderbilt, who qualified as an individual, Tyler McKeever of Georgia Southern and Jim Fuller of Penn State. Six players were tied at 1-under-par 71. <br> <br> The Tigers also got solid performances from Gregg Jones (71), Matt Hendrix (73) and Ben Duncan (73) on the 7,119-yard course. <br> <br> Tennessee finished in third place with a total of 294, while North Carolina and Penn State tied for fourth with 7-over 295s.
