ATLANTA - Police in Georgia wrote 33,208 citations last spring during the ``Click It or Ticket'' campaign cracking down on motorists not using seat belts and child-restraint seats.
Beginning Monday and going through May 31, police will again be on the lookout for people not buckling up as the Governor's Office of Highway Safety kicks off the second annual ``Click It or Ticket'' push.
Last spring, more than 7,700 police checkpoints were involved. Besides the tickets for seat-belt violations, police wrote about 2,900 citations for failing to properly restrain child passengers. Those checkpoints also yielded about 1,700 drunken driving arrests.
Anyone 4 years old and older riding in the front seat must be wearing a seat belt. Children 2 and younger in a car must be in a child-restraint seat. Children 3 and 4 must be restrained by at least a seat belt.
Seat belt laws do not apply in pickup trucks, although child-restraint laws still apply.
Fines for seat-belt violations are $15, and $50 for child-restraint violations.
