ATLANTA - Julia Wallace, managing editor of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution since January 2001, has been named the paper's editor. She replaces Ron Martin, who will expand his corporate duties for Cox Newspapers Incorporated.
Publisher Roger Kintzel said Thursday, ``Julia brings a wealth of talent and experience to the editor's position at a time when this newspaper is faced with exciting challenges. She has embraced this newspaper and this community over the last year-and-a-half, and she clearly understands them both. She is thoroughly capable of leading an aggressive staff to produce an even greater newspaper.''
The moves, announced Thursday, become official on July first.
As editor, Wallace will be the newspaper's top news executive, responsible for both news and opinion pages.
Martin will broaden his role as senior editor to assist Jay Smith, president of Cox Newspapers, in the integration of the Cox Interactive Media Web sites with Web sites at other Cox newspapers. He will continue to oversee the Washington and foreign bureaus and CoxNet, the news service linking all Cox newspapers.
