MARIETTA - Two Cobb County women have filed suit in an effort to force county officials to close a kennel they say has ruined the environment of surrounding neighborhoods with noise from barking dogs.
Michelle Knowles, Julie Tomala and other residents in the east Cobb neighborhood have campaigned against the AA Pet Resort for years.
County officials contend the kennel is protected by a grandfather clause in the zoning ordinance.
But the lawsuit says the kennel violates both the zoning ordinance and the county noise ordinance.
The suit names Cobb County Commission Chairman Bill Byrne - who is running as a Republican candidate for governor - and Sam Olens, who is running for the seat being vacated by Byrne.
