DULUTH - Two Gwinnett County teens have been charged in connection with the sexual assault of another student at what authorities are calling an underage drinking party that got out of hand.
Parker Ignotz, 18, was arrested in front of classmates at graduation practice Thursday. Police said he hosted the Feb. 16 party while his father was away at a vacation home.
Cassandra Shipp, 18, the alleged attacker, was indicted Thursday on charges of felony aggravated sexual battery and misdemeanor simple battery. Ignotz is charged as a party to those crimes.
About 15 or 20 teen-agers, mainly from Duluth, were at the home drinking and some also were smoking marijuana, Gwinnett District Attorney Danny Porter said. The victim had too much to drink and passed out, he said.
The assault became a spectacle, but no one stepped in to stop it, Porter said. No one told the girl she had been victimized, including the friend who drove her home after she regained consciousness.
Emily Cate, 18, punched the victim in the face and joined Shipp in writing expletives on the girl's buttocks and legs, Porter said. Cate, a Phoenix High School senior, is charged with simple battery.
