An Atlanta Journal-Constitution report says the Corps sent a letter dated April 15 to Gov. Roy Barnes denying the area's request to pull more water out of Lake Lanier and the Chattahoochee River.
The denial came one month before federal officials said metro Atlanta was already exceeding its supply from the lake and river almost 30 years ahead of projections.
Last week, federal water experts said metro Atlanta was close to exceeding projected levels but that the area would not exhaust Lake Lanier and Chattahoochee until 2030. Corps officials, however, recently said the area had exceeded its water use during some of 1999 and 2000.
