Atlanta police officer shoots, kills suspected stabber

ATLANTA - An Atlanta police officer is on leave Monday after he shot and killed a suspected stabber in downtown Atlanta Sunday night. <br> <br> The shooting happened at about 11 p.m. near Turner Field. Officer G.D. Dabney Junior saw a man running under a bridge and shot and killed him. A police statement released Monday says the two men were fighting and the gun went off during a struggle. <br> <br> But at least one witness told reporters the suspect did not fight with the officer and was shot in the back as he ran away. <br> <br> The man killed was 33-year-old James E. Allen. <br> <br> The officer was looking for a man who stabbed Caroline Jackson moments before in the same area. The woman was stabbed several times and was in stable condition at Grady Memorial Hospital Monday.
