Worker killed in accident at Six Flags Over Georgia

AUSTELL - A roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia reopened Monday, a day after a worker wandered into its path and was killed when a passenger on the ride struck him in the head. <br> <br> A 58-year-old groundskeeper at the theme park was hit by the leg of a teen-ager on ``Batman, The Ride,&#39;&#39; a coaster on which passengers&#39; legs dangle from their seats. <br> <br> The man was identified by Cobb County police as Samuel Milton Guyton of Atlanta. <br> <br> The ride reopened Monday after an inspection by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration, which is charged with ensuring worker safety. The ride was deemed safe for passengers but there was no word on how the groundskeeper got into the area. <br> <br> Park spokeswoman Lisa Bigazzi-Tilt says the worker was walking in a no-access, locked area when the accident happened. <br> <br> ``Batman, The Ride&#39;&#39; reaches speeds of 50 miles an hour. It&#39;s 109 feet tall and has been open since 1997. <br> <br> The man was treated at the scene by paramedics before he was taken by ambulance to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, where he was declared dead. <br> <br> Bigazzi-Tilt says the passenger, a 14-year old girl who was seated in the front car of the ride, was taken with leg injuries to Wellstar Cobb Hospital. Hospital officials this morning said the girl was in stable condition Sunday night and later released. <br> <br> Another passenger on the same ride suffered minor injuries when she was hit by a shoe lost by the 14-year-old on impact with the worker. The second woman, a 21-year-old, was treated at the First Aid station at the park.
