MOULTRIE - A pickup truck that crashed into a tree has killed a Barwick man, his 4-year-old daughter and two young stepsons.
State troopers said Amadeo Mejia-Sanchez, 27, was driving a pickup truck too fast Sunday on a road just east of Moultrie. The truck ran off the road and struck a pine tree.
Mejia-Sanchez, a dairy farm worker from Barwick, 20 miles south of Moultrie, was killed along with his stepsons, 8-year-old Julio Durrence and 9-year-old Emanuel Durrence, and his daughter, Anna Sanchez.
``It is just a terrible tragedy. You just wish there was something that could have been done to prevent it,'' state Trooper John K. Luke said.
No one was wearing a seat belt in the truck, and troopers found alcoholic beverages in the vehicle. Officials plan to test Mejia-Sanchez's blood alcohol level, Luke said.
Mejia-Sanchez's wife, Tina Durrence of Barwick, was not in the vehicle.
