MACON - A Bibb County inmate was returned to jail Monday after nearly 63 hours on the run, authorities said.
James Kevin Keel, 29, escaped while being transported to a recreation area Friday night. A tip from a Monticello resident and efforts of the Bibb County and Jasper County sheriff's offices led to his capture at 12:45 p.m. Monday.
Keel managed to run off because of a ``violation of procedure,'' Bibb County sheriff's spokesman Lt. Albert Hall said. Corrections deputies chased him but he disappeared in a housing area.
The sheriff's office did not release the names of the corrections deputies involved in the procedure violation. Sheriff Jerry Modena has ordered an investigation.
Hall said Keel could face additional charges including escape before prosecution. It was unclear if charges had been filed late Monday.
In November, Keel was indicted on 18 counts of burglary, 17 counts of theft by taking, three counts of aggravated assault, one count of entering an auto and one count of possession of tools for the commission of a crime.
