Former Nashville police chief accused of sexual misconduct

NASHVILLE - Former Nashville Police Chief Ira Shealy has been charged with sexual misconduct involving female prisoners. <br> <br> Shealy, 53, was arrested Tuesday on charges of sexual battery and public indecency, both misdemeanors, and two felony counts of sexual assault on a person in custody, according to warrants obtained by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. <br> <br> Shealy, who resigned March 29 after 13 years as chief, was released from the Berrien County Jail on $13,000 bond. <br> <br> District Attorney Bob Ellis said Shealy was accused of inappropriate conduct with two female prisoners, in October 2000 and between March 23-26 with a woman being housed in Nashville by the Lakeland Police Department.
