BRUNSWICK - A former Glynn County police officer was convicted late Wednesday of sexually assaulting a woman in his custody while he was on duty.
A Glynn County jury found Dennis Krauss, 45, of Waynesville, guilty of forcing the woman to have sex with him after he responded to a report of a domestic dispute at her home in December 1999.
The jury acquitted Krauss of related charges of felony rape and misdemeanor sexual battery.
Krauss, a 19-year veteran with the Glynn County department, resigned six days after being arrested. He now faces revocation of his state certification as a law enforcement officer.
Krauss' lawyer, Ken Blackstone, declined to comment.
Superior Court Judge Stephen Scarlett said he planned to sentence Krauss within 30 days, officials said.
