Savannah wants anti-discrimination policy for courtyard

SAVANNAH - The city is pressuring the landlords of a popular Savannah entertainment district to draft an anti-discrimination policy for the use of a public courtyard. <br> <br> City Manager Michael Brown appointed a team to investigate whether City Market Associates discriminate in the kind of musicians they allow to play on the closed two-block street they lease from the city. <br> <br> Brown said City Market managing partners Marcie Hill and Peter Tulloch will submit the proposed policy to the city within the next week. <br> <br> Last month, Rapper Jayson Jones filed a discrimination lawsuit in federal court, claiming City Market Associates has a pattern of denying black musical acts permission to perform in the outdoor courtyard. <br> <br> Jones had been hired to perform by Malone&#39;s Food and Spirits. City Market Associates recently terminated Malone&#39;s ten-year lease, saying the bar has been late in rental payments and has broken other lease terms.
