MLB wanted in D.C. area

WASHINGTON - A third ownership group has emerged in the campaign to bring a major league baseball team back to the Washington area. <br> <br> Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder and Black Entertainment Television founder Robert Johnson have joined forces to try to buy a team. <br> <br> ``It&#39;s something they&#39;ve seriously discussed over the past several weeks,&#39;&#39; Karl Swanson, a spokesman for Snyder, said early Saturday. ``It&#39;s in the preliminary stages.&#39;&#39; <br> <br> Groups led by Washington business Fred Malek and Northern Virginia telecommunications executive William Collins have been trying to lure a team to the nation&#39;s capital. Their efforts received a boost recently when baseball commissioner Bud Selig called Washington a ``prime candidate&#39;&#39; for relocation. <br> <br> Snyder paid a then-record $800 million for the Redskins in 1999. Johnson has been trying to break into sports ownership for several years and once offered to buy the NBA&#39;s Washington Wizards from Abe Pollin. <br> <br> ``We&#39;re a force that know sports, marketing and television,&#39;&#39; Snyder told The Washington Post. ``We can be a powerful force in the effort to get a baseball team here.&#39;&#39;
