Mississippi State hammers Georgia

STARKVILLE, MISSISSIPPI - John Mungle drove in three runs as Mississippi State used three big innings to rout Georgia 14-4 Saturday.

Michael Brown got the Bulldogs going in the third with a two-run home run. Mungle finished the five-run rally with an RBI single that put Mississippi State (17-10-1, 6-4, Southeastern Conference) up 5-1.

After Georgia (16-9, 7-3) pushed a run across in the top of the sixth, Mississippi State erupted for six runs in the bottom half.

Jason Burkley's two-run single and Mungle's two-run triple highlighted the inning and put the Bulldogs up 11-2.

Mungle and Brown were 2-for-4, Casey Long was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and Matthew Maniscalco went 2-for-2 with three runs scored.

Tanner Brock (4-2) pitched eight innings allowing five hits, five walks and two runs for Mississippi State.

Mississippi State got three more in the seventh on a bases loaded walk, an error and a sacrifice fly.

The Bulldogs had 14 hits and Georgia made three errors.

Bill Sharpton started and worked 5 2-3 innings for Georgia, giving up nine runs seven earned on eight hits and four walks.

Darryl Blaze was 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Georgia.
