Authorities drop vehicular homicide charge

CANTON - Authorities have dropped a second-degree vehicular homicide charge against a 17-year-old who was driving a pickup truck when another teen-ager was thrown from the back with a load of lockers they were moving for their high school baseball team. <br> <br> Prosecutors said Thursday that they will continue to move forward with two other misdemeanor charges, reckless driving and failure to secure a load, filed against Cherokee High senior Zachary Alan Cochran of Holly Springs. <br> <br> Cochran and teammate Joshua Reider, 15, were moving lockers Jan. 22 when the pickup crossed over a series of speed bumps, sending Reider and the lockers crashing to the ground. The boy died later that day. <br> <br> Each misdemeanor charges carries a maximum penalty of a year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
