EAST POINT - Authorities have identified a couple and their grandson who died in a house fire in East Point early Friday.

East Point Deputy Fire Chief Mark Rogers said 51-year-old Jerry Pitts and two-year-old Derrick Evans died of smoke inhalation. Pitts' wife, 53-year-old Gwendolyn Pitts was killed when she fell 20 feet from a bedroom window while trying to escape the blaze.

The bodies were taken to the Fulton County Medical Center for autopsies.

Rogers said the cause of the fire was still under investigation but likely was an accident, possibly caused by an electrical appliance. Firefighters answered the call at about two a.m., finding most of the damage in the living and dining rooms.

Rogers said the bodies of the man and boy were found in separate bedrooms, and the woman's body was found in the yard.
