ATHENS - A $75,000 bond has been set for a 28-year-old University of Georgia student accused of fatally shooting her boyfriend on April 12th.
Superior Court Judge Lawton Stephens also ordered Friday that Ioulia ``Julie'' Zaitseva, a Russian immigrant who became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1999, surrender her passport to court officials as a condition of her release.
Police say Zaitseva shot 51-year-old Terry Wayne Mathis of Monroe in the head with a .25-caliber derringer in her apartment. The two had been dating off and on for several years.
Zaitseva's lawyer claims she endured years of abuse by Mathis and acted in self-defense.
