COCHRAN - Authorities in Bleckley County have not filed any charges against the owners of dogs they believe fatally mauled a three-year-old boy over the weekend.

But Sheriff Harold Lancaster says he is considering charges against the boy's grandmother, who had the boy at her home when the attack happened.

Ja-Shawn Taylor lived with his maternal grandmother, Gloria Taylor, in Hawkinsville. But he was visiting his other grandmother, Linda Wright, when he apparently wandered off after her female dog.

There were no witnesses, but authorities speculate that the boy was caught in the middle when male dogs gathered around the female. The female dog was apparently not part of the attack.

Ja-Shawn's body was found in a wooded area near Georgia 87, about a quarter mile from the trailer park where Wright lived. He died of a dog bite to the throat.

Investigators have taken custody of three dogs. They are being tested to see if they were involved in the attack. One is apparently a stray and two have known owners.
