DUBLIN - Police are questioning a trucker who allegedly kept a woman captive and beat her frequently for at least six months.

Authorities arrested Shannon E. Jones after finding him and his captive at a Georgia rest stop Saturday.

Katina Shaddix was hundreds of miles from the rest stop in Tennessee where she scrawled a desperate message on a bathroom wall: ``Won't let me out. Beating me, this is no joke!''

A janitor found the message, which included information about Jones' truck number, and called police Friday night. They used a global positioning system to find the truck and Shaddix.

Shaddix told police that Jones beat her and held her against her will for at least six months, following her to the bathroom and waiting outside so she wouldn't escape.

From her hospital bed, Shaddix told officers she hid a marker in her sock and left more than 30 similar ``help'' messages on bathroom walls from New York to Tennessee. Jones was charged with aggravated assault and could face kidnapping charges.

Sergeant Gerald Frazier of the Laurens County Sheriff's Department says the 24-year-old Shaddix has had internal injuries and some broken bones as well as ``bruises pretty much all over her body.''

Shaddix is recovering at Fairview Park hospital in Laurens County.

Although the arrest happened in Georgia, the case may be turned over to the FBI because Shaddix says the kidnapping and other crimes were committed elsewhere.
