LAWRENCEVILLE - Police shot and wounded a car thief suspect Tuesday after he led them on a high-speed chase, struck several other vehicles and then pointed a shotgun at officers, authorities said.
Darvin McDonald, 23, of Stone Mountain was driving a minivan taken from a home in Lawrenceville, police Maj. Paul King said.
When the Lawrenceville officers boxed in the van on Ga. 316 with their vehicles, the suspect emerged carrying the shotgun, King said.
The officers opened fire and McDonald was hit four or five times in the buttocks and hip, police Capt. Greg Vaughn said.
McDonald will be charged with robbery after being released from Gwinnett Medical Center, where he was listed in good condition Tuesday night, Vaughn said.
King said Gwinnett County police chased the suspect for a short time when he was outside city limits, and county detectives were helping with the investigation.
