Police shoot car thief suspect after chase

LAWRENCEVILLE - Police shot and wounded a car thief suspect Tuesday after he led them on a high-speed chase, struck several other vehicles and then pointed a shotgun at officers, authorities said. <br> <br> Darvin McDonald, 23, of Stone Mountain was driving a minivan taken from a home in Lawrenceville, police Maj. Paul King said. <br> <br> When the Lawrenceville officers boxed in the van on Ga. 316 with their vehicles, the suspect emerged carrying the shotgun, King said. <br> <br> The officers opened fire and McDonald was hit four or five times in the buttocks and hip, police Capt. Greg Vaughn said. <br> <br> McDonald will be charged with robbery after being released from Gwinnett Medical Center, where he was listed in good condition Tuesday night, Vaughn said. <br> <br> King said Gwinnett County police chased the suspect for a short time when he was outside city limits, and county detectives were helping with the investigation.
