Coweta County educator named Teacher of the Year

MACON - Lorraine Johnson, a seventh-grade English and teacher at Arnall Middle School in Coweta County, is the 2003 Georgia Teacher of the Year. <br> <br> The selection was announced at a reception Friday at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Macon. <br> <br> Margaret Sims, a teacher of English literature at Marietta High School, was runner-up. <br> <br> Johnson, 41, a North Carolina native, has been teaching for 17 years. She received her bachelor&#39;s, master&#39;s and specialist degrees in education from the State University of West Georgia and has been listed four times in Who&#39;s Who Among American Teachers. <br> <br> Each of the 180 Georgia public school systems submits one teacher for the state competition. A panel of educators chooses 12 semifinalists, who are interviewed and observed in the classroom to narrow the list to five finalists.
