Tornadoes take their toll, but north Georgia escapes

UNDATED - Clean-up is continuing in hard-hit areas from the Tennessee and Ohio valleys to the East Coast. A huge line of storms touched off at least one confirmed tornado in southern Maryland Sunday night.<br>

State Police Dispatcher Diana Reilly in LaPlata, Maryland, says there is extensive damage there. <br>

The storms are being blamed for several deaths and dozens of injuries; at least three of the deaths are reporte din Maryland.<br>
<br>
A tornado watch was in effect for parts of the north Georgia mountains for a time Sunday night. All of north Georgia was under a severe thunderstorm watch for several hours, and, tornado warnings were briefly issued for Gwinnett, Hart, and Franklin counties, but there are no reports of any damage.<br>
