LAWRENCEVILLE - An administrative law judge has recommended a six-month suspension for a fourth-grade teacher who posted questions from the controversial Gateway test on the Internet.
Judge Catherine Crawford stopped short of supporting a move to revoke the teaching certificate of James Hope, Centerville Elementary School's Teacher of the Year in 2000-2001.
Hope said his intent in posting the questions in April 2000 was to show flaws in the test, including the fact that some of the questions were ambiguous and confusing.
In an opinion released last week, Crawford said Hope's actions violated code of ethics for teachers dealing with standardized tests, but she said he does not deserve to lose his teacher's license, as the Professional Standards Commission ruled last year.
