Officer kills suspect in burglary attempt

DECATUR - A DeKalb County police officer is on administrative leave as authorities investigate the fatal shooting of a suspect as the officer investigated a burglary. <br> <br> The suspect was shot Monday in a neighborhood in southwest DeKalb County near South DeKalb Mall. <br> <br> Police say the officer was investigating a break-in, spotted the suspect and chased him into the back yard of a home where the shooting occurred. <br> <br> The victim&#39;s body was on the slope of a ravine. <br> <br> Police have not released the victim&#39;s name. It&#39;s not known whether he had a weapon. <br> <br> Police say officers recovered several small items taken from the house. <br> <br> Residents of the subdivision that opened about two years ago say burglaries have been reported in two or three homes each month since the first of the year.
