ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA - Drug-related gunfire broke out at a Habitat for Humanity site, leaving seven volunteers from the University of Alabama to run for cover.
No one was injured in the shooting that shattered the back panel windows of a university van as a student cowered inside. Two bullets also struck a Honda owned by Dan Stowers, the Habitat for Humanity site supervisor.
The rest of the volunteers hid in a closet until police arrived.
``We heard the gunfire, and we just ran,'' said Mary White, 21, a University of Alabama student and volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. ``I've never heard gunshots.''
Antonio Graham, 26, Deyonta Mells, 16, and Harold Roberson, 25, were arrested on felony and misdemeanor drug charges.

They were in a cars that matched those that fled the shooting. Police said they are seeking other suspects and investigating whether the three arrested were the gunmen.

The students were working on the house when they heard two men yelling across the street. About 40 men quickly arrived in 15 cars and gunfire broke out.

Witnesses said eight to 10 shots were fired when passing motorists exchanged fire with a man on the sidewalk. Police recovered about five shell casings.

Police said they believed the shooting stemmed from a drug-related dispute and one window of the Habitat for Humanity house had already been shot out.
The students will remain in St. Petersburg but work on a different site, officials said.
