Woman charged with hiring nephews to torch car

AUGUSTA - Police have charged an Augusta woman with attempted arson after she hired her nephews to set her car on fire to spare her from further payments. <br> <br> Brenda Lee Chess, 40, was charged with criminal attempted arson as well as a misdemeanor charge of making a false report for telling police her 2000 Chevrolet Malibu was stolen. <br> <br> A Richmond County sheriff&#39;s deputy arrested Hassan Allen, 21, and Charles W. Deloach II, 20, early Thursday after they had doused the car with gasoline, sheriff&#39;s Sgt. Jimmy Vowell said. <br> <br> The pair admitted their aunt had paid them each $50 and promised $150 more when her insurance money arrived, Vowell said. Both men were charged with attempted arson. <br> <br> The men said Chess told them she was tired of making payments on the car, Vowell said.
