ATLANTA - Cingular Wireless, the nation's second largest wireless carrier, said Monday that it is increasing the number of minutes to its national package plans and eliminating roaming and long distance charges in the United States.
The new Cingular Nation prices being offered beginning this week range from $29.99 for 250 package minutes to $199.99 for 3,000 minutes, and all seven pricing packages include 3,500 night and weekend minutes both long distance and roaming.
Cingular spokesman Clay Owen said this is an expansion from 100 minutes from the lowest-priced plan and 2,000 minutes for the highest-priced. No night and weekend bonus minutes were included before, he said.
``This new initiative by Cingular makes our national calling plans affordable for a much broader consumer base,'' said Stephen Carter, president and chief executive of Cingular.
``An additional 3,500 nationwide bonus minutes provides additional flexibility. And we've taken the guess-work out of wireless by eliminating roaming and long distance charges,'' Carter said.
Cingular, a joint venture between SBC Communications and BellSouth, currently has almost 21.6 million customers nationwide.
