CLEMSON - Garris Gonce had a homer and three RBIs, and Yaron Peters homered to lead South Carolina to a 6-2 victory over Seton Hall on Saturday.
The Gamecocks (13-2) also got a career-high 12 strikeouts from starter Gary Bell (4-0) in 7 2-3 innings.
Steven Bondurant picked up his first career save when he pitched South Carolina out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth inning.
But it was Gonce who got things going early. After Drew Meyer reached on an error in the first inning and scored on Peters' groundout, Gonce followed with his seventh home run of the season to give the Gamecocks a 3-0 lead.
Meyer and Gonce added two more runs in the third. Meyer singled, stole second and third, then came home on Gonce's double. Gonce got in on a passed ball.
Peters had a leadoff homer in the fifth inning as South Carolina went up 6-0.
And it looked more than enough with Bell on the mound. But Seton Hall (2-9) tried to rally with two runs in the eighth on hits by Todd Crawford and Anthony Seratelli and Bell's wild pitch.
The Pirates loaded the bases the next inning, but Bondurant came in and got the out. He shut down Seton Hall in order in the ninth to close things out.
Seton Hall's Chris Noonan (1-3) got the loss.
