CLEMSON, S.C. - Michael Johnson had a grand slam and Clemson held on through a long rain-delay to defeat Purdue 9-6 on Saturday.

Johnson's blast to center in the fifth inning was his fourth homer in his last five games and helped the Tigers (9-0) to a 9-1 lead.

David Slevin singled, Khalil Greene doubled and Jeff Baker walked to load the bases ahead of Johnson. It was his seventh homer of the season. Jarrod Schmidt followed with a shot off the scoreboard. Slevin, the second baseman who went 3-for-4 at the plate, had a sacrifice fly later in the inning to finish the scoring.

However, Purdue had the bases loaded when the rains came to delay the game for an hour and 20 minutes. When play resumed, the Boilermakers (2-6) rallied with four runs.

Purdue threatened again in the ninth inning, scoring a run before reliever Paul Harrleson ended the game and earned his fourth save of the year.

Clemson starter Matt Henrie (2-0) allowed only two hits in six innings for the victory.

Purdue's Dustin Glant (0-1) took the loss, giving up nine hits and eight runs in 4 1-3 innings.
