DOUGLASVILLE - The state Ethics Commission has dropped charges against Senate Majority Leader Charles Walker on his dealings with the state Department of Corrections.

CresTech, a company that Walker's son helped organize, won a subcontracting bid with long-distance giant WorldCom.

The contract gives them an exclusive multimillion dollar contract to provide telephone service to thousands of state prisoners.

Walker's name was linked to an investigation by the Public Service Commission to see if prisoners were overcharged by CresTech.

Throughout the investigation, Walker maintained he was unaware people were complaining that they were charged double the quoted rates.

The Democratic senator did not attend Friday's hearing where the commission voted 3-0 in favor of dismissing the complaint against Walker.
