Augusta man charged for fatally stabbing wife

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - An Augusta, Ga., man - estranged from his wife who is an officer at Pope Air Force Base - has been charged with murder in his wife&#39;s death in South Carolina. <br> <br> Second Lt. Annise Hall, 32, was fatally stabbed Sunday in front of the couple&#39;s 1-year-old daughter after her husband abducted her and led a trooper on a high-speed chase, authorities said. <br> <br> During the chase, the driver pulled to the side of the road, but sped off when the trooper got out of his car. <br> <br> ``The state trooper said he could see him assaulting the lady in the back seat,&#39;&#39; Darlington County (S.C.) Sheriff Glenn Campbell said. <br> <br> Charles Oliver Hall, 32, of Augusta, Ga., was later arrested and charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping and child endangerment. <br> <br> Annise and Charles Hall met at a gas station off Interstate 20 just north of Florence, S.C., so she could pick up the 1-year-old, who had been visiting her father, Campbell said. <br> <br> Annise Hall&#39;s sister, her other daughter and Charles Hall&#39;s 11-year-old son also were at the store. <br> <br> ``They met him, and he gave the two older children some money to buy some things at the store,&#39;&#39; Campbell said. The sheriff said Annise Hall&#39;s sister and the children went into the store. <br> <br> Annise Hall ``went into his car to get the child,&#39;&#39; Campbell said. ``When she opened the door, he shoved her in and took off.&#39;&#39; A store clerk called 911. <br> <br> Annise Hall, who lived in Sanford, had been stationed in Fayetteville since April, serving in the 43rd Comptroller Squadron at Pope. <br> <br> The three children have been placed with South Carolina&#39;s Department of Social Services, Campbell said.
