Clemson's Smith pleads guilty to selling drugs

PICKENS, S.C. - Former Clemson tackle Desmond Akil Smith has pleaded guilty to drug-related charges and been given probation. <br> <br> Smith pleaded guilty Monday to three counts of distribution of marijuana and three counts of distributing marijuana near a school, prosecutor David Seay said. <br> <br> Circuit Judge Joe Watson sentenced Smith to two years of probation and ordered drug and alcohol counseling. <br> <br> Smith, a junior from Richmond, Va., and senior tailback Travis Zachery, of Marietta Ga., were arrested Dec. 4 after an investigation by the State Law Enforcement Division, the Pickens County Sheriff&#39;s Office and Clemson police. <br> <br> No court date has been set for Zachery, who is charged with one count of distributing marijuana. <br> <br> Neither is now enrolled at Clemson, spokeswoman Robin Denny said. <br> <br> Both players were kicked off the team by coach Tommy Bowden.
