Former Georgia two-sport athlete dies

ATHENS - Guy Stargell, a tight end on Georgia&#39;s 1980 national championship team, died after a lengthy illness, the school announced Friday. He was 42. <br> <br> Stargell, who also played for Georgia&#39;s baseball team, died last night in Atlanta. <br> <br> A native of Fayetteville, Stargell lettered four times (1980-83) in baseball but is best remembered for his lone football letter. He played for the team that went 12-0 and defeated Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl to win the school&#39;s only national title. <br> <br> Stargell pitched in 27 games for Georgia, including 20 starts. His best season was 1981, when he went 5-0 in ten games, and he finished his career with an 8-5 record and 5.76 ERA. <br> <br> Funeral arrangements are pending.
