Sheffield and Jordan meet as Dodgers down Braves

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Terry Mulholland pitched three hitless innings, Paul LoDuca went 2-for-3 with an RBI and the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Atlanta Braves 3-1 Friday. <br> <br> The game marked the first meeting between Atlanta&#39;s Gary Sheffield and Brian Jordan of the Dodgers since they were swapped in a blockbuster trade two months earlier. <br> <br> Sheffield went 0-for-2, lowering his spring training average to .353. Jordan, who was applauded by Braves fans before he batted the first time, was 1-of-3 with a third-inning double. <br> <br> The teams played on March 8 in Vero Beach, but Sheffield didn&#39;t make the trip. <br> <br> Mulholland, another former Brave, allowed only one base-runner during his stint. George Lombard was hit by a pitch in the third. <br> <br> Kevin Beirne picked up the win by pitching a scoreless fourth. In the fifth, the Dodgers went ahead for good against loser Mike Remlinger. <br> <br> Tom Goodwin walked, Hiram Bocachica singled to left and LoDuca followed with another hit to left, bringing home the game&#39;s first run. <br> <br> Remlinger, who was experimenting with his curve, gave up another run in the sixth. Dave Hansen led off with a double, moved to third on Phil Hiatt&#39;s single and came home on Mark Whiten&#39;s sacrifice fly. <br> <br> The Dodgers made it 3-0 in the seventh against Tim Spooneybarger, who gave up his first run of the spring. Dante Bichette&#39;s two-out single brought in Jeff Reboulet. <br> <br> Atlanta finally broke through in the ninth, beginning the inning with three straight hits against Ricky Bones. Wes Helms had an RBI single and the Braves had runners at first and second with no outs, but Bones escaped the jam for his first save of the spring. <br> <br> Julio Franco lined out to third and Eddie Perez ended the game by grounding to short. <br> <br> Jason Marquis, set to be the Braves fourth starter, has his best outing of the spring with four scoreless innings. He gave up four hits, walked two and struck out while lowering his spring ERA from 14.54 to 7.56. <br> <br>
