WASHINGTON - Second-seed Connecticut held off Hampton 78-67 in the NCAA East Regional. <br>

Caron Butler scored 21 for the Huskies, who pulled away by scoring the game's final seven points. <br>
<br>
Hampton, which had upset second-seed Iowa State last year in the first round, made a run at UConn and trailed 71-67 with just over three minutes remaining. But four points was as close as the Pirates got in the second half. <br>
<br>
Hampton's season ends with a 26-7 record. <br>
<br>
UConn advances with a 25-6 mark to face North Carolina State in the second round on Sunday.
