WARNER ROBINS - A man died after apparently suffering a stroke while being detained by the Houston County sheriff's department.

Authorities said 54-year-old Budd Wetzel of Fort Valley died Thursday after he was taken to the department to give a breath test on suspicion of drunken driving. Wetzel had been involved in a minor traffic accident.

A deputy left him alone momentarily and returned when he heard Wetzel scream, finding him on the floor. Sheriff's Lieutenant Charles Holt said later tests at a hospital detected evidence of a seizure or possible stroke.

An autopsy yesterday identified a blood clot in the head as the probable cause of death.

Holt said the deputy who was handling Wetzel followed department procedure.

Wetzel's family could not be reached for comment.
